Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

3rd party collections agents

What is the law about 3rd party collections, how many times can they call you?If you tell them not to call you at work, do they have to stop.

How long can they call you. I have a bill with a department store that is six years old. People tell me if I only pay a cent I will go back into the system for 7 more years, is this true? What should ZI do.

Re: 3rd party collections agents

The statute of limitations for suit on a debt is four years, so it is too late for them to file suit on the debt. A debt may be reported on your credit report for 7 years from the date of last activity of the account (your last payment). A debt collector may continue to try to collect it unless you tell them to cease and desist from any and all communications with you. You should send this in writing, certified mail, return receipt requested.
