Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

12 year old debt

To whom it may concern:

For the past several months, a particular collection agency has been calling my house and my place of employment. 12 years ago, I attended a university and left owing a 1200 tuition. Now, the debt is 5,000 plus because of intrest rate. 2 days ago, this collection agency called me at work, I told them right off that I was unable to pay a debt as large as that..they asked me why and I stated that I was in school and said it would be impossible to pay it. She threatened to contact the school that I am attending now to cease the financial aid that i receive for school. This was not a Government loan......

Contact an attorney in your area that's familiar with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Make a record or memorandum of the phonecall, names, dates, times, substance of the conversation, etc. Write to the collector and tell them that all subsequent contacts are to be in writing.
