Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

12 year old debt

I have recently been receiving phone calls from a debt collector for a 12 y/o debt that I do not believe I owe, I have not received any documentation stating I owe the debt, in fact I believe it to be my deceased father's fore we share the same name although they verified the last 4 of my SS, I have been threatened with suit, I have told the collector that I will not acknowledge the debt and to send proof, they tell me they do not have to. What is the statute of limitations in Texas for this and is there anything I can do since this is the 2nd debt I believe is my deceased father's that they are trying to collect from me? Thank you Gene Koehler

Statute of limitations for suit on a debt in Texas is four years. A debt may not be reported on your credit report longer than 7 years from the date of last activity. Send a letter telling them to cease and desist from any and all collection activity or communications with you about this debt.
