Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

I am a 20 year old single father who's baby was born while the mother was covered under Medicaid. I was a full time student covered under my parents private insurance and also worked for $10.00 an hour at my job. I have been told that the Attorney General's Office can come after me to reimburse Medicaid for my daughters medical bills. Is that true and why would I be responsible when the mother signed up for Medicaid and qualified?

Part of the "child support obligation" is to provide medical care for the child. The AG can sue you for back unpaid medical care, however it was provided (insurance premiums, actual medical bills, etc.). They would do this in connection with a paternity suit.

The odds of them actually going after this kind of medical reimbursement, however, are very, very small. They just don't have the time, and they won't bother.

They WILL ask for retroactive child support.
