Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

about 15 years ago i ran a small business. i leased credit card equipment from a business that withdrew about 10 dollars a month from my account. i was told that if i went out of business or no longer needed the equipment they would pick it up. a rep came by my place had my sign a contract with enough paperwork attached it looked a phone book. i payed for many months and only took 1 credit card. i closed my business account and except a part time basis my business. i tried to get them to come get equipment they said they wanted over 5 thousand dollars and never contacted me to get equipment. the equipment then was only worth 5 or 6 hundred then and a lot less now i told them no way. some time later i recieved a notice of intent to file a judgement in baltimore MD. i had some hard times and ceartinly could not travel there my credit was shot at this point anyway so i let it go. i would just have to accept a judgement on my credit. this ended 8 years ago last year they sent a notice saying they were reapplying for the judgement and if i didnt show up to baltimore i would be in contempt of court. i live in texas and have never been to baltimore in my life. they sent papers by a sheriff here saying next month if i didnt show up in baltimore i would be requested to jail. my real question is i dont care if i have a warrant in baltimore i am never going but will they actually come get me for something like that or will it just be a warrant?

I am pretty sure they would have to actually sue you to get a judgment. Also, if this is 8 years later, it is surely outside the statute of limitations.

If you were actually sued and there is a judgment and a requirement for you to appear in court, it is possible you would be in contempt.

You should consult with an attorney and bring all paperwork to the attorney's office to determine what is best.

Best of luck
