Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Abstract Judgement

I won a judgement in small claims court. What avenues can I take to collect what is owed to me? Since I live in Texas, I don't believe I can seize any of their property, nor can I garnish their wages. Can I personally report this to any of the credit reporting agencies? Am I able to contact their employers to seek relief that way?

Re: Abstract Judgement

Unfortunately, getting a judgment is much easier than collecting on the judgment. The credit bureaus scan the judgments on a regular basis and will pick up the judgment as a matter of course. You don't have to report it.

Since you cannot garnishee current wages, contacting his boss opens the door to a lot of trouble for you. Don't do it.

If you know where he banks, and have some idea as to the amount of money he may have there, you might consider garnisheeing his bank account. But if there isn't enough money in the account to pay for the bank's attorney, you may have to pay their fee.
