If an authorized user of a credit card uses the card for one small charge(before knowing the card holder died) after the primary card holder dies is the authorized user responsible for the entire account?

In all likelihood they would not be liable under the facts you gave. The authorized user might should attempt to return the item and then buy it with their own card.
