Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
I was a bartender in Texas for two years. I had a bar tab that I paid regularly. Now two years later the owner "finds" unpaid tabs and wants to collect on them. These were paid and taken out of my credit card tips they with held to my knowledge and I was told in the past I didn't owe anything. For the past 6 or 8 months I have never held a tab longer than one night because I no longer work there and I have paid by credit card. These tabs are hand written and dated index, but to my knowledge the were paid in cash or taken out of my checks. Employees aren't given checks or stubs and there are no reciept books for payment to be found for those months in question. Can they collect on these? And how do I know if it was a paid tab that they never threw away after it was paid?
