Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Bill owed to hospital

I owe my local hospital a balance of $1400 after my insurance paid their 80% and their billing office is threatning to turn me into a collection agency if I don't pay them at least $100.00 a month on this bill. Is this legal? I've been sending them $20.00 a mo.I thought as long as they accepted whatever you sent them they couldn' turn you in. Has this changed? I'm in Texas. Thanks for your time.

Re: Bill owed to hospital

That never was the law. They can require payment of the entire amount, or agree to a payout over time; it is solely up to the creditor. They can turn it over to a collection agency if you don't agree to the payment terms they want.
