Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Boat Repossession

I still owe a debt after boat was sold/auctioned. The debt collector has informed me that I could pay about 40% of the amount in a week and the debt would be settled. Sounds like a good deal but I don't have $3000 to pay within a week. Debt collector explains to me that they will file suit and put a lien against my home. My home is my homestead and in Texas. Can they put a lien against my home?

Re: Boat Repossession

If they sue you and take a judgment against you, they can then file an Abstract of Judgment in your county and place a lien against all real property in that county. However, they cannot foreclose on your homestead under Texas law.
