Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
I broke a lease in California 6 years ago due to an abusive husband, I am now living in texas. My lease debt was bought by a collection agancy who today told me I will never be able to buy a house, rent a property and they can garnish my wages. Is this true? Can they legally bully and make threats like that? Will it be on my credit for ever? Will I never be able to rent another apartment?

Send them a cease and desist letter telling them not to contact again. This is likely outside the statute of limitations for a lawsuit. Also, this should be on your credit report for 7 years.
