Cell phone bill dispute

I had a dispute over a cell phone bill with Cingular for $1,600 which they turned over to a collections agency. They are calling telling me to get a lawyer and I will be going to court , can they do this??

Sure. They can sue you for the amount they claim you owe. You can defend yourself of course, and go pro se. It's not really advisable, though, unless you're fairly familiar with the rules of civil procedure.
