old charged off accounts

Due to financial hardships I was no longer able to pay my credit card bills. I now have collecters contacting me 8 years later with accounts they have accquired from my charged off credit cards. What can I tell them and what should I do?

Write to them, certified mail, telling them that you dispute the debt, that any action on their part is barred by limitations, and that all subsequent communications must be in writing.
