Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Charge-off of Electric Utility Account
Situation: Utility company placed a charge-off on my credit report prior to the collection agency contacting me. Collection agency stated the mail was returned to them. I only found out about the delinquency when I applied for credit. I immediately contacted the electric company and wired the funds. The account was in my name but belonged to my son who stated he had been paying the utility. I realize I was responsible for the debt, but I don't feel my credit should have been damaged for the next 7 years as a result of me trying to help my son. The utility company refuses to removed the charge-off. What are my legal options in getting this completely deleted?

Nil to none. The debt was not paid on time (and the excuse was not new or extraordinary), so they're not going to remove nor are they obligated in any manner to even consider it. Good Luck.
