Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Checks return notice due to closed account

I had wrote 6 checks to Wal-Mart. I recently recieved a letter from their home office stating,''that the checks listed were issued by me, and drawn on my bank, and payable to the specific Wal-Mart location, were dishonored.Pursuant to Texas Law, they were submitting me with this notice.'' The letter continued stating that it's purpose was a demand for payment for the checks unpaid.'' ''the letter further states that I have ten (100 days from the reciept of it to submit payment in full, and if I fail to do such the failure to pay ceates a presumptio for committing an offense, and this matter may be referred for criminal prosecution.

The letter further advised me hat I would nt be able to write checks at ANY of their stores,as my check wriring privileges have been suspended until the items are paid. In addition to canceling my check writing privelges, they reserve the right to exercise any other legal rights they may have to colect the debts owed.

My question is this- I did write these checks, in good faith. However, I was not aware that due to privacy protection by my bank, my account had been closed, without my knowledge. I am wanting to inquire if it would be in my best interest to contact Wal-Mart and make payment arrangements.

Yes, yes yes. The sooner the better. If you don't contact them soon and make arrangements to pay, criminal charges may be filed against you.
