Claims Court Filing When Business Has Been Closed

Greetings - I filed a small claims court case against a dentist who overcharged me substantially for a procedure. He closed his office before filing the claim with my insurance company - yet received the insurances portion for the claim. When I received the insurance paperwork - I contacted the Dentist - who notified me, in writing, that they had closed the office, and the bank had confiscated all of their available funds, thus he had no funds to be able to repay me. Should I have filed the case against the dental practice (which is closed), or the dentist himself - or both. I contacted the jurisdiction for the small claims court - and he had provided an oral denial - which causes me to question if I filed the case correctly? Appreciate any input that you can provide!! Thank you!

You file against the dentist unless his practice was a corporate entity. I've no idea what an oral denial is since every document I've seen requires a written answer.
