Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Collection of auto repair services

Nov 2007 got estimate for new engine on truck that was for $2000. Car went to shop and was there for 8 months before completed. Paid $3000 while we waited for it to be completed. We asked several times about what we were up to pricewise because they kept finding more to do. Never was given an answer. Told not to worry. Picked up Jeep in worse condition then when we dropped it off and was told we owed an additional $2500. Owner has stated they will place a lien on our title and warrant for arrest for theft of services. Are we obligated to pay for such a huge difference in the written estimate we have? Can she do as she is threatening? We now live in Maine and are no longer in Texas.

Re: Collection of auto repair services

You must have gone to a backyaard mechanic..not an established repair shop. "truck" was it a Tractor?or a half ton pick up?? You had a good case IF you had written estimate before work started..etc..

but shop may have lien in Texas...and if title is still in Texas you may have to fight it. Obviously not a crime unless you took truck without permission...There must be a lot more to the story
