Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

collection but not my contract

My ex husband signed a contract w/ a merchant service before we were married. He did not pay the merchant and it has gone to collection. We are no longer married and the collection agency is coming after me even though my name is not on the contract, they state that since we were married it is legally my debt. Is that true?

Sounds like violation of Fair Debt Collection Act..and you probably owe nothing...see an attorney who does such work...
