Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Collection of foreign debt against immigrant

I have a friend who is in the U.S. on a visa waiting for his green card to get permanent residency. My friend has unpaid credit card debt from the UK. What remedies does the UK creditor have and can it affect the immigrant's ability to get a green card, if at all?

The U.K. creditor can bring suit against the debtor for damages here. Or they can bring suit in the UK and try to have their judgment entered here.

You'd have to speak with an immigration attorney as to the question of impact on the debtor's green card application.
