Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Collections caused by ex husband

Debt owed to Sears is now in collections and totals around $6000.00. My ex-husband was on the account but taken off prior to the divorce because he was stealing anything he could to support his drug habit. After the divorce he sold the jeep that was in both our names. I agreed to the sell on the condition that he would pay $2000.00 to Sears to clear that debt. He has failed to do so and now it has increased due to fees and charges. This is ruining my credit and I need to somehow either make him responsible for the debt or something so that I can clear my credit and get the collection agency to quit harassing me. Thank you

Okay -- so you trusted a guy with a drug habit to be responsible about an unsecured debt. You bear some of the blame for that. You can sue him for the money, but I doubt you will recover anything. If you are not judgment proof, then contact Sears to work out a payment arrangement that you can live with.
