Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

old collections

I have a collection that was originally from 1999. It has recently been placed with a collection agency/law firm. They have contacted my mother to find me. When I called them back they wanted to verify where I live, the car I own, and where I work. I told him to never call any other number than my cell number. A fax just came to my office to verify my employment. The fax included my social security number. I want to know if they are acting within their rights, how they are getting all this infomation about me and what I can do to make them go away.

Re: old collections

Find out if they have a judgment. Tell them this debt is beyond the statute of limitations and that you contest the amount and the origination. Put this in writing. Find out who they are. Ask for the Texas license number.
