Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Collectors showing up at work!

I received a phone call today from my best friend who was in tears. She had just gotten a visit from the manager of a national rent-to-own chain at her job and she is a teacher. She is behind on her payments and does not have enough to catch back up at this time. He walked into her classroom and demanded that she return the items that she has rented. When she told him that she could not have this discussion at this time, he proceeded to call her a thief, liar, and crook in front of her students.

I am furious at this man and tempted to call the police and report his actions, but I do not know if that would make a difference. What can I do to help her? Would calling the corporate office be the best thing to do?

I do not want to see he afraid to answer her door because they are beating it down every few hours or see her loose her job over this.

I feel that they have stepped way over the line with these actions and want to know how I can teach them a lesson!

Thanks for any advice you share,

chet

Re: Collectors showing up at work!

You may have a potential violation of the Texas Debt Collection Act (the use of abusive or harassing language/techniques in the collection of a debt).
