Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

The consequences of not paying a tort claim.

I was fired from a job because i stole a small amount of fruit drinks. (less than 10$) I had a civil recovery company asking me for 300 dollars as a fine. I havent paid this fine as of july last year. They havent recently sent me a ''final notice'' for the full amount of 400 dollars. Though I DO want to pay, i dont have the full 400 dollars. What can they do to me. Can I be arrested or sent to court? Can I arrange a payment plan? Please advise.

Re: The consequences of not paying a tort claim.

A court can impose a fine for a misdemeanor offense. A "civil recovery company" has absolutely no authority to do so.

If your ex-employer presses criminal charges for misdemeanor theft, the court may assess a fine close to what is being asked, although I'd expect such a fine would be less.
