Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Contacted by lawyer to collect debt

Can legal action be taken against me for not paying on a credit card? I was laid off from my job, and my new job pays alot less than the last one. Now i do not have the means to make payments on my credit cards. One of them has turned the collection over to a lawyer. He attempted to contact me, and I have not called him back. I do not own anything, I rent my apartment and car. What can be done to me?

Re: Contacted by lawyer to collect debt

Yes, the legal action is to sue you, get judgment against you, and keep that judgment alive until you pay off the judgment with interest, court costs and attorney fees. Speak with the lawyer that contacted you, explain what your financial situation is, and try to work out a schedule of payments.

"I can't pay" is a reason, and not an excuse.
