Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Contract by Check Deposit

I received a check for 2$ from Yellow Pages, Inc. My wife did not read the T&C, and deposited the check. They billed 179$ plus interest for a Yellow Pages ad. We feel the check was fraudulent since the T&Cs were in small print and confusing. I have called them, and say we have a legal contract despite I signed nothing. Do I have a legal obligation to pay this debt? They are charging interest.

Re: Contract by Check Deposit

That, unfortunately, is a legal gotcha. It's a community debt since your wife signed it.

You might explain to her that aside from you and some relatives, no one is going to give her money without expecting some return well in excess of what they've given.
