Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Court Date after response to legal service
I have past due credit card debt that went to arbitration. An arbitration award was issued. Suit has been filed but I have not yet been served. I expect to be served at any time. I have received a notice that I have certified mail at the post office and I'm sure it's the legal notice.
I understand that I will have 20 calendar days to respond. I assume that the 20 days starts when I pick up and sign for the letter. How soon after that will the court date be scheduled?
I have been told that in order to receive a judgement, I must be in the courtroom within 1 year of the time that the arbitration award was given. The timing is very close for me if that is accurate.

Re: Court Date after response to legal service
The one year limitation is that the credit card company has one year from the time the award is issued to file to confirm the award. IF you hire an attorney experienced in these matters, you may be able to prevent the award from being entered. There are a lot of problems with these arbitrations. This is not something you can handle on your own as pro se.
