court summons

i was served a summons because i did not pay a credit card debt. it instructs me to to answer summons within 20 days. how and what do i need to do next.it gives me no court date or time. how do i answer this.

It requires a written answer filed with the court by that date. The "20 days" and "summons" leads me to believe that's a federal lawsuit. There you have to admit, deny, or state why you can neither admit nor deny each paragraph in the complaint.

If a state action, the answer date is the first Monday after the 20 days. There all you have to do is state that you deny the allegations. However it may be well worth the time and money to sit down and discuss this with an attorney since there may be procedural traps for the unwary.
