Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Credit Card Ddebt

I was contacted on Monday about paying a debt. This was the second time that I was contacted since about a month ago. The card was opened in July 04 and payment was stopped in Jan 05. I didnt open the credit card and I would rather pay it off than let it go because the person that opened the card and didnt pay it was my mother. I cant come up with $1000 by friday. If I dont pay the what they are trying to settle for and they do take it to court, what kind of fees other than the debt am I looking to pay? I dont understand why I cant just make payments since I was just now contacted about this matter.

Re: Credit Card Ddebt

I can only fathom 1-2 reasons why they would be contacting you to pay your mother's debt, neither of which is valid. You do not owe the debts of your mother unless you signed something to assume her debts. Surely you didn't. These people ordinarily don't want payments. If they can't get you to pay it, they might consider suing and see if that motivates you. If not, there's nothing else they can do if you don't have any assets (land, stocks, bank accounts) they can seize. to seize your bank account, they have to find it and obtain a court order. Good Luck
