Credit Card Debt..1999

I opened a credit card in 1999. I did not pay or close the $500. balance owed. I got a call from ''merchants credit something'' or other, and they said it went into collections in 2004 for $1300. It originally went into collections in 2000 with another collections agency. I just bought a home with an fha loan and they were all up on my credit and did not mention this collection from Merchants Collection. How long will this be a hassle? Can I tell them to stop calling me?

If you received $500...you owe it morally but their legal right to collect is lost..and of course you can tell them to stop calling..
