Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

credit card debt

My credit card debt was turned over to collections in 2002, in 2007 a judgement was filed in New York, I have always resided in Texas, so my questions:

1.) Is it legal for them to file the judgement in New York?

2.) What is the statue of limitations for Texas, or does that not apply to credit card debt?

Re: credit card debt

You might have been able to fight the lawsuit in NY, but you didn't; so now it could be legal. The statute of limitations in TX is 4 years; 10 years on a judgment, but that does not apply to this situation because a judgment has been granted. Many of these collection companies make serious legal mistakes. You would have to confer with a qualified attorney in your area for more specifics. Good Luck.
