Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
credit card debt
If a debt that is four years old is considerd dead, why would a collector hire a lawyer and threaten court action? Is this kept active as long as different agencies take over this account? How may I find out if a debt is considered dead?

Because they think they can get a default judgment. This is a defensible claim and once you are able to get the case dismissed, you can sue for violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. You should contact a consumer lawyer.
