Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Credit Card Fraud

My son's live-in friend used his credit cards unbeknownst to him. He traveled all week for his job and she intercepted the mail so he never saw any of the bills. He was not using these cards, but had put them in his file cabinet. They were paid off. She also had her name frauduently added to one card and also took out a new card in my son's name. She is now gone and collection agencies are after my son. This was reported to the 3 credit agencies & credit card companies. Reports were made to police departments, but little interest has been shown. What should my son do? Since he has no assets, would bankruptcy be the best way to get rid of this mess? Amounts owed are around $25,000.

Re: Credit Card Fraud

Bankruptcy would be a blot on his credit for ten years, but it would clear the debts. A possibility exists that his explanation attached to the credit reports may also clear his credit. It's strictly a judgment call as to which is the better approach.
