Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Credit card lawsuit
can i be sued by a credit card collection agency if i no longer live in the usa.
This credit card account went into default in 1999. Since then it has been sold about 6 times. At one point one collection agency claimed the debt was now $33,000. Finally, this last credit card collection agency bought the debt and want to sue us for 11,000 plus legal fees. The papers were never served to us. Instead the papers were served to a tenent renting our home. All of our business was exposed to this tenant and his family. He called me and told me that the credit card company was suing me. They give me 20 days to respond. I received this letter from my tenant on new years eve. We have been living in Jamaica since 2007 and just came back to the usa recently. We will be going back to jamaica in February. CAN WE BE SUED? Should I call the plaintiff lawyer and reject the sue? What should i DO?

Re: Credit card lawsuit
The best thing you could now is to take this case to a lawyer and let him/her get you out of it -- or go back to Jamaica and worry about it till you get ready to return. Good Luck.
