Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Credit Card Phone Calls for Overlimit Cards

What are the laws regarding overlimit credit card balance phone calls? We have a company that we have 2 card accounts with, we are current with them, and they became overlimit 6 months ago, when my spouse was transferred out of state, I was unemployed, and with the finance fees, which then led to overlimit fees, and then a couple late fees, because of my unemployment, the cards are overlimit. But not because of spending on them. The fees are outrageous. We are paying on the cards, it is not on our report as late, because we pay on time, but because they are overlimit, we have been told that the accounts are set up on ''automatic'' phone calling to call us every 3 days until they are not overlimit anymore. Some weeks, we get as many as 2 calls (1 for each card) per day, 3 days apart. They tell me I cannot ask for them to stop and I have asked if they can just call if I am late, or call just once a month. They tell me there is nothing I can do. The problem is that the phone calls are coming every 3 days, and this is extremely stressful. Even though we are paying ont the cards, and not small payments. You can see from looking at the accounts that we are paying. Is there anything I can do?

Re: Credit Card Phone Calls for Overlimit Cards

You can write to them, use certified mail, asking that the automatic phone calls stop. However, if it is the creditor and not a collection agency, what they are doing is legal.
