Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Credit card phone harassment

I received a call from a credit card collector stating I had to pay the amount in full. The account was open 9 years ago and has not been used or paid on since 2001. This was the first call I received about the matter. The caller was extremely rude and disrespectful, resulting in me to get ill. Can a credit card company sue me for not paying, even if I am unemployed and have been since 2001?

Can I file a grievance or complaint against the individual who contacted me? Thank you for your time in advance!

Re: Credit card phone harassment

They can sue you. Who will you file your grievance or complaint with?

Write to them, certified mail, return receipt requested, state that you dispute the debt, the statute of limitations has run, they are not to contact you by phone, and all subsequent communications are to be in writing. Then, if they proceed to call you after they receive your letter, you have a shot at them under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
