Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

I had a credit card about 4 1/2 years ago. I could not pay it during unemployemnt periods, and finally had to default on it. Citi-bank sold it to a second buyer, and it was sold again.. now I am being sued for the balance, and the thrid purchaser has changed the default and last payment date to window the staute of limtations in texas. I called citibank, they indicate they purgered all my records upn sale. They cut the paper trail, is there a burdon law for the Plaintiff to establish documentation of true payments dates?
