Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Credit Crad Lawsuits

How long can an account be closed out, charged off, or whatever, before it can no longer be acted upon by a collection agency or even a ''credit card lawyer''? I'd always heard that after 7yrs that it was supposed to drop off your credit report and be unable to be acted (or collected) upon.
