Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

credit judgement

someone accepted a court order unknown to me and there has since been a judgement against me. I'm assuming I am in contempt of court sice I was unaware and did not show. what type of attorney do I need to hire to deal with this before account levying or wage garnishment occurs? Judgement was awarded in Louisiana and I live in Texas.

Re: credit judgement

If you were not personally served with the lawsuit, the court has no jurisdiction over you and the judgment is not legal. It's difficult to prove that you did not get served. But you can contest these issues in TX. Hire a lawyer who knows how to contest these issues and be prepared to spend some money. Might be better to raise these issues then try to settle.
