Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Credit Report didn't take bad debt off after I settled

When I lost my job in 2002, I had a bad debt for $1490 which went on my credit report. I paid it off in Feb 2006, but the Equifax still shows it as a bad debt. I have repeatedly called them and asked them to update the report to show it paid, but they haven't done so. They said they will issue a letter of payment if I need one. Do I have recourse if they don't update the credit rpt with my payment?

Write to them and get the form for adding information to your credit report. It was a bad debt, and will remain on your credit report for seven years. You can add an explanation as to how it came about, and when you paid it.
