Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Credit report
Recent report still shows bad debts incurred when ill in 2000. I thought in Tx that the law was 7 years they could keep this on my report, but they are saying debt transferred and debt will continue to be on credit report until like 2015.....is this correct, if not, what do I do to get this off my credit report. Thanks,

Re: Credit report
Under the Fair Credit Report Act, which is a federal law, debt may be reported for seven years from the date of last activity. I would dispute in writing with each of the credit reporting agencies, copying the creditors also, mail certified mail, return receipt requested. If they don't take it off, then you may have grounds for a lawsuit.
