Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Credit Reporting Agencies

Once I have disputed with the credit bureaus and the collection agency confirms the debt is mine what is the next step? I don't see how they could have confirmed anything since this debt truly does not belong to me. What proof do the credit bureaus require them to provied to confirm the debt? The credit bureau is advising me that since the collection agency confirmed the debt is mine that it will stay on my report and that any further disputes will have to be handled with them directly. Everything I have read on this site indicates do not deal with collection agencies directly. Should I contact the collection agency via letter or send another dispute to the credit reporting agency...and what should I say in my letter? Thanks for advising....

Re: Credit Reporting Agencies

You can request verification of the debt from the debt collector. If you can't get it resolved, the next step is litigation agains the debt collectors for violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and/or Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
