Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

What can my creditors do to me for not being able to pay my debts

What can my creditors do legally to me if I am unable to pay my debts? I have a daughter that is sick, I'm having to pay her rent which put me behind on my personal bills. Can they take me to court, put me in jail, what can they do to me ?

Since we no longer have debtor's prisons you cannot be jailed for a civil debt. Your creditors can take you to court, get a judgment against you, trash your credit, and try to collect against property that isn't exempt from levy and sale.

Texas is a debtor's haven, and collection against an individual is extremely difficult. They can't force a sale of your home, or one car per family member living together, they can't garnishee current wages, seize retirement accounts or life insurance. If they can find a bank account, they can seize that.
