Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
I'm curious what your legal opinion is on this issue from recent news:
http://www.kutv.com/news/features/gephardt/stories/vid_474.shtml
As a layman this seems like potential credit reporting fraud and/or potential extortion, not to mention civil damages against the business "KlearGear". The state in which KlearGear operates is TX if that is significant.
What do you think? Do the Palmers have any legal remedies to this situation? What responsibilities do the credit reporting agencies have to confirm the validity of (seemingly arbitrary) information they receive from businesses such as KlearGear? Do consumers have any functional protection against fraudulent reporting?

If you are following this matter, the lawyers at Public Justice are taking this on. Public Justice is a great organization and I am very glad someone is representing the Palmers. I think Kleargear has serious liability based on the reported facts.
