Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Customer put a stop payment on check for serves rendered
I have a small moving business in Minnesota and advertise my services on an Internet marketplace. Through this site, a customer chooses a moving provider and submits a work request with a brief description. The customer requests the number of people they want to hire then they prepay for the amount of time they estimate the job will take. This web sites customer agreement clearly states that if the job takes longer than the time estimated, the customer must pay the service provider for the additional labor hours. Heres the problem, as my crew neared the end of the prepaid time, I asked for and received a verbal approval from the customer to continue loading the truck. He agreed to pay for the additional labor hours. After completing the job, he wrote me a check for the balance due. I deposited the check in my account the following day. A week later I got the check back in the mail with stop payment stamped across the front. Does he have the right to do this? How do I pursue getting my money from him? He moved out of state (to Texas), am I able to pursue this across state lines?

You'll have to sue him in TX if you pursue COnciliation COurt (Small Claims).
It probably is not a large enough amount to justify bringing suit in MN District COurt, although you could (since the check was issued in MN and the contract formed here.)
Then you would have to transfer the judgment to TX and collect it there.
In the future you will probably want to get cash or a debit card for payment of this type of charge.
