Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Debt collection

I was contanted by a lawyers office stating I owed a debt. First I'm not sure I owe it. And if I do it has to be over 10 years old. It would have been during my marriage and I have been divorced for 10 years.

It is for a credit card - a little over $6000.00. I was living in Texas and just recently moved to Flordia. I don't know if that would make a difference in the laws, I know each state has their own laws.

My question is what do I do? Do I contact them. I do not want them calling me. I've told them to stop calling my home.

What should I do from here.

I already have a letter written questioning if I even owe the debt. Should I send that? And if I do owe it what should I do, it's been 10 years. It is not on my credit report and it has not been for the last 10 years.
