Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

debt collector

I was called at work and threatened with being arrested for a payday loan from a company I have never heard of. The man has a very heavy accent, and wanted me to pay with a credit or debit card an amount over 1500 which he said was half the amount on a 350 loan plus interest. He said if I go to court I will pay between 4000, and 5000. He says he works for Financial Crime Protection Division in Houston , Texas. The caller id listed a New Jersey number.

Re: debt collector

Don't fall for this. It would only help any case you may have if they did, in fact, arrest you. That is just bizarre.

Document everything with a diary and keep good records.

You might consider consulting an attorney to look into any state or federal claims you may have. Your question does not likely pertain to Texas law only.

Good luck!
