Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Old Debt listed under ''Public Notices''

I signed up with a company that lets me know if there is a change to my credit report. I received a notice from them about a change and when I checked it it said a company called Asset Acceptance Corp had listed a collection debt under Public Notices - I have never heard of this company and to my knowledge don't owe anything to them. I haven't even had any credit problems for at least five years. How do I find out about this company and what does Public Notices mean? Am I being sued for something? Do I need to get an attorney? Please help

Re: Old Debt listed under ''Public Notices''

Asset Acceptance Corp is a collection agency, and not the creditor. Check with the credit reporting company that entered the notice to find out exactly what's claimed and how you can dispute it. Credit reporting is notoriously careless; they may have the right name but the wrong person.

You need to get a copy of your actual credit report from all three different credit reporting agencies and see what it actually says. Then you will know who to contact for verification information. Errors on credit reports are common.
