What To Do About An Old Debt That I Am Not Going To Pay

I have an old debt from a finace company. The last payment I made on the debt was 12 years ago.Now a debt recovery company is trying top collect. I understand it too old to sue me or put the debt on my credit report and if they do they violate Federal law and i could sue them in federal court. That said what about the harressing phone calls . How do I get them to stop ?

Send them a letter, certified mail, return receipt requested, telling them to cease and desist from any and all communications with you concerning this debt. That you dispute the debt and that, as is your right, prefer to deal with the original creditor. If they continue to contact you after receiving your letter, it is a fair debt collection practices violation.
