Old Debt

I received a collection letter from a company stating I owed then $1000's from 1998. I dont remember this card and they are saying they dont have any documentation to prove this is my debt. It was never on my credit report until I got the letter and called them a few months ago. What can I do?

Re: Old Debt

Write them a certified letter denying ownership of the debt, demanding proof of ownership, and advising them that the Statute of Limitations has passed on the debt. If it appears on your credit report, send a copy to the credit agency.
