Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Debt Responsibility

My husband, without my knowledge or consent, has agreed to co-sign a loan for my stepdaughter's graduate education. If something happens to him before the loan is repaid, am I liable for repayment if she defaults on the loan, even though she stands to receive $20,000 in life insurance upon his death?

Re: Debt Responsibility

You are not liable to repay any loans to which you are not a signer.

You have no legal liability for a step-child's bills which you have not promised in writing to pay, no matter what they are.
